Onyx
The valley that once was your packs territory, is a hollow thing compared to its former self. Even during the time of chaos, it was still green and lush. Then the last upheaval came.
The world shook, the air seemed to burn , and the once clear blue lake turned first red, then black. Things came out of the water. They came out of the earth. your pack tried to move to the caves, the only safe place they held during the chaos.
There was something in the air, you could smell it, the others in your pack didn't even notice. A strange smell that seemed to come from everywhere. Your pack ran to the cave. You were farthest away when the upheaval hit, but you could hear the howls of the pack telling all to gather.
Moving at full speed, you travel the secret path up the hill toward the cave. Just as you crested the last rise, the cave was in sight. IT would be a tight fit, you had a large pack. Still there should be just enough room... The the smell seemed to get stronger, instead of all around it seemed to be coming from in front of you.
That's when you saw, there was something in the cave, the smell was coming from there. There was also a strange blue-grey light within. You cried a howl of warning, but the pack couldn't hear. Between the sounds of breaking earth, and the noise of fear from the pups inside. Your warning was unheeded. The there was a sound, something sharp like the sounds of bones breaking. And the light seemed to swell. The cave grew brighter, and the smell was overpowering. With a violent crash you stumbled into the ground, as the ground gave one last might heave, sending rocks and stone crashing down from the rocky hill side. Then just as the rocks hit the ground, the light and the smell, shot from the cave, sending your senses reeling and bringing a blessed end in unconsciousness, to the horror of this day.
Onyx woke sometime later, the world was quiet...

Ethel
It started off as any day should. The pack was hunting, there were several hungry pups from several females, that needed full belly's. The packs hold on the Territory was secure. Defending and fighting for more years then she had been alive had become the norm.
The pack had started off small, but instead of driving off other packs or lone wolves, they had been allowed to join your pack. Your parents had a wisdom few wolfs had. The somehow knew that to survive in the new chaos of the world they needed to put past considerations behind, and make the pack the biggest and strongest they could.
This they did, this was the world you grew up in. Chaos reined everywhere, but your pack, was one of the few markers of order, and if not peace, something very close.
Then something happened. off in the distance you could hear the sounds of earth rumblings, and the rain that had been gentle and refreshing, turned hot, the water that rained down was an ugly green, it burned where it fell.
The from the packs den, sounds of fighting and howls of rage and help could be heard. moving quickly, she turned from the hunt and the rain and sprinted back to the den. All the while battle sounds, death sounds could be heard.
Breaking into the dens clearing, she saw her pack fighting... things. The moved like smoke, tearing into pack members, and leaving dark festering wounds. The pack fought, but it seemed the wolves had little effect, tooth and claw seemed to move through them without harm.
Running to her parents side, Ethel tried to stop these creatures, she bit and clawed, but it seemed futile. Looking around she saw what remained of her once proud and strong pack. Her parents were still fighting, fighting flank to flank. The old blind storyteller was alive if barely, the Male that she had shunned, stood over him doing his best to protect the old wolf. Perhaps she had been to hasty in turning down his advances?
Then the sky split as a bolt of lighting crashed down from the scared heavens and blasted a smoke creature. The impact was deafening. surges of white hot pain seemed to travel the length of her body. The smoke creatures screamed in rage and defiance to the sky, then melted away as if they had never been there.
The white hot pain from the lighting turned the world white, then black.
Ethel awoke.....

[glow=red,2,300]Ethel[/glow]
The dark female woke with a start. Her nostrils flared and her pupils dilated, growing bigger to compensate for the darker atmosphere. Where was she? A bubble of air rolled up from her lungs and burst out of her nose, sounding like a snort. Ethel jumped up, her muscles bunching visibly under her velvety coat. Her head jerked back and forth, her misty green eyes searched her surroundings frantically. Her parents? That old storyteller? Where had her pack gone? The wolf threw back her elegant head and sent a howl into the deathly silent air. The noise spoke of sadness, question, and authority. Had her pack left her? Did they think she was dead? All of these questions flashed through her mind. She pranced forward and her muscles complained angrily. She yelped as she felt searing pain run down her spine.

Ethel
The pain subsided after a few steps, and her eyes adjusted quickly to the growing darkness. The smell of burnt fur was rather unpleasant. And the soreness of her body was not something she was used to. Still she was alive.
Looking around the clearing, she sees a scorched area, probably where the lighting struck. In the center of it she sees a twisted and burnt creature. Apparently what ever the things was, lightening could kill it, as opposed to just tooth and claw.....
With a start, she sees limp bodies of wolves laying around the clearing. only 4 though, as well as the creature. She recognizes them. These were the last wolves she saw before the lighting struck. Her parents, the storyteller, and the male.

Ethel
Her heart stopped for several beats and she froze, afraid of what she would discover by moving forward. Her eyebrows were furrowed and she trotted forward uneasily. Her nose twitched as she scented the air, and she could smell burnt hair and strangely, sulfur.
Ethel slunk forward and came upon the bodies. She recognized them immediately and sadness flowed through her. Loneliness suddenly assaulted her and she laid down next to the smoldering bodies of her remaining pack. She sent a howl into the air, and it seemed to echo for miles. She whined and nudged her mother's paw and gently licked her fathers burned ear. The furrow on her brow grew deeper and she grew angry. Why had this happened!? A growl bubbled out of her throat and she sprinted towards the creature that had caused all of this madness.

Onyx remained still, eyes suspiciously darting from one side to the other of the cave, fallen rocks strew around him. He looked down at his paws, then looked over his shoulder to check for wounds. His fur was singed and he was covered in nicks and bruises, and a fair sized rock was lying on the tip of his hind right paw. He struggled to free it, and finally it pulled free. He yelped, not daring to move for fear of discovering more - more serious - injuries. The world seemed quiet and eerie silence thickly filling the air. He didn't see anyone from his angle. He felt alone. Not even daring to stand, his mind replayed what he had been through, or at least what he remembered of it.

Onyx
Laying there, Onyx feels tired, after a bit though the pain eases up, and he realizes that hes not to badly damaged. His right hind paw while swore, is not broke, it will probably be sore for a few days, but none the worse for wear.
Its this time while examining his injuries, that he first realizes two things. One, the world smells fainter then before. Its like there is something covering out the scents around him. They are still there, but it seems as if even close scents come from far away, while scents from a distance, he normally could smell, are almost unreadable. Perhaps it was the blue grey dust and light that lept from the cave.
The other thing is that all the brown and tan fur he sported, is now the same blue-grey as the light. At first he thought it was just dust, but after several attempts to clean himself, he knows its his actual fur.

The creature, is burnt and black, still it looks like some kind of dog, or wolf. though its none like she has ever seen before. No dog or wolf is immune to tooth and claw, or moves like smoke on the wind.
There seems to be no trail to where it came from or where the rest of its kind went.
She does get a strange buzzing sound within her head as she nears it. Its not painfull but it definitely is distracting.

As Ethel approached the creature that had helped murder her parents, she noticed that it was dog like. It was a big ball of burnt goo. She growled angrily and lunged forward, being blinded by anger. The female's jaws latched around the oozing body, as to shake it and rip it to shreds. She had forgotten, however, that the body was still smoldering. Ethel dropped the gooy mess quickly and stood stalk still as the inside of her mouth numbed with pain. She yelped very loudly and lowered herself to the ground, pawing at her muzzle with her front paws. The humming in her head buzzed louder and louder by the moment and she tried to ignore it, fight against it even.

Onyx stood, looking around. He put very little weight on his sore paw. He shook his coat, distraught by the new colors. What now, he asked himself. He searched the cave for the source of the low amount of light that was being let into the dark cave. He thought he spotted a sliver of light near the roof of the cave, almost completely blocked by rubble. Though he couldn't be sure. He was extremely distracted by his lack of adequate smell along with his new bluish color, and disoriented by the events prior to that moment. Though what those events were, he still couldn't remember what. All he could remember was the ground shaking, rocks falling, a strange scent, and a bluish-grey light. How he got there, how he was going to get out, and where his pack was, were questions all remaining to be answered as he worried about his immediate situation.

Male Voice, Geez, i thought you were smarter then that. Only a fool would bite something still burning. Then again, you turned me down.
The voice stopped the buzzing for a second, it seems to be the voice of the male she had shunned.... But he was dead!

Ethel froze, her muscles tensing. She sat statue still as a voice in her mind seemed to speak. She growled and jumped up, wanting, no needing to get away from all of these strange happenings. But how do you escape something that is occuring in your own mind?

The way up the fallen rocks is difficult, you think you can make it, but it will take time. As you slowly move up to the crescent of light, you see crumpled forms of pack mates amidst the rocks.
Faintly you can smell the familer scents, and you know that you are probably the only survivor. There are no howls of help or need, just the awful quite of the cave.

Onyx jumped back as he realized what he thought were rocks were also dead wolves. His pack mates. How could he be so stupid as to not realize they were bodies? The scents, though they were faint, were still somewhat recognizable. Their scents were old, possibly days dead, and rancid. He whined as he accidentally stepped on several of them in his attempt to reach the light. He scrambled on the rubble at the top, and stuck his muzzle out of the opening, taking a few gasps of fresh air. He began scraping at the debris at the top, slowly making progress. Finally he could fit half of his body out of the opening. His hindquarters were still in the cave, and his front legs were sprawled out on the rubble on the other side. He was exhausted. What was the point of going on? He was stuck. He would die there along with his pack mates. He realized that wasn't and option immediately. He continued to squirm his way out, still making slow progress.

Onyx
Onyx finally made his way out of the tight fit. Once through he stumble and tumbles down the rocky hill now covering the opening of the cave.
The area around the cave is covered in a fine powder, the same color as her new fur. And while you nose still seems clogged up you get no sense of danger. The area around the cave is quiet, seems all the normal living things have fled.

Ethel's muscles were tremulous and her senses were going wild. This was so dang strange! Her ears pinned and she ran. Just keep running. Her mind suddenly shut into a strange mode. It was only getting a few pieces of visual information. First, Ethel was flying away from the site of her parent's death, and next she was jumping over a creek in the middle of the woods, then she was laying in a heap, panting heavily. Large sections of memory was cut out. And everything was black.

Ethel whined as the old storyteller's voice resounded in her head. She nodded and stood. She was defiantly going crazy. I mean, she was seriously listening to voices in her head. Ethel slunk forward defeatedly.
