P.J's eyes flicked quickly to the large -no not especially large, brindle great dane that has adressed her. She hadn't even noticed that he had approached, or if she had approached him. She immediatly went to a defense stage, lowering herself only slightly to the ground, but not enough to look like she was going to hurt him. She would though, at least she would try. By the way he spoke, he sounded so un-sure. And he wasnt the largest great dane she had seen. The make introduced himself and P.J. hesitated surprised that he was so friendly. She glanced around at the fighting dogs around her, making her even more confused. This dog was large, and strong. He probably would be able to fight any of these dogs and win! Well, maybe not win some of the trained dogs... But a lot of them. She turned back to the great dane, who had introduced himself as Colby. "Yours too, hmm?" P.J. Had never really known why the dogs were everywhere on the atreet, fighting for food and such, but she had guessed it was the sane reason for P.J. and Cue, and now Colby. Everyone was missing their owners. "Yes, that's what Inwould guess," she eyed him carefully, still in complete defense move if he wanted to attack. He was a bit larger than her and he could easily tackle her and possible squash her. But, how experienced was he with fighting? It all depended on that really.

Colby nodded uncertainly. As soon as he'd walked up, the Aussie had lowered herself partway into a defensive crouch, making her not seem as friendly as he'd hoped she might be. It hadn't crossed his mind that the reason for her wariness might be he himself. He took a step back, wondering if he might be better off talking to someone else, but upon second thought, decided that, in comparison with all the other dogs he'd seen so far, this Aussie was pretty friendly after all. At least, she was less likely to make a lunge for his throat than that Irish Wolfhound over there. "You don't have any idea where they all went?" he asked, hoping she might have more information on the humans' disappearance than he did.

P.J continued to eye the dog with uncertainty. The dog seemed of no threat, as Cue had. They seemed like the same dog only opposite genders. Though this Great Dane was more cruious and seemed a little more nervous that Cue. She hesitantly highered herself from the ground -not entirely, -but a decent ammount. "No," she said bluntly, wondering if she would help this dog out in some way. Should she? Would she? She hesiated then looked around. "Well, all I know is that everyone's humans are gone. Everyone's ." Her eyes flicked around once more and was about to say something, when a large dog approached them -just a little smaller than the Great Dane she was talking to. He was some time of fighting dog -P.J. could tell by the way he was snarling, crouching, eyes blazing and also the kind of dog he was. He was some kind of mutt -but with Rott Weiler (Sp?) in him for sure. "That's mine !!" The words came out like venom from the mutt's mouth, eyes flicking instantly to the crumpled body on the cement just behind P.J. She hadn't even noticed the poor little dog lying there -dead. P.J. immediatly jumped away, not wanting to fight. She was by far smaller than both dogs around her. She had better not take her chances. "You can have it." She said calmly, not showing that she was the smallest bit frightened, though she was. The mutt snarled at her, glancing quickly toward the brindle great dane, then lowered his head and ripped out a chunk of the poor body at their feet.

Colby's face fell. The Aussie knew nothing more than he did about where their people had gone -just that they were. Just then, a big Rottweiler-mix stalked up to them, claiming the body of a tiny Yorkshire that Colby hadn't even noticed lying at their feet. He cowered away from the menacing other male, wincing as the other dog tore into the Yorkie. He glanced at the red Aussie he'd been talking to, who appeared cool as a cucumber. It made him feel slightly foolish; her so calm and fearless, while he, the great big Dane, cringed and whimpered. He straightened and tried to at least pretend he wasn't a total wimp.

Cue found herself at the end of the city, standing on the wall next to the ocean. The salty wind stung her eyes. She had never seen such a large body of water before. It was incredible. She looked over her shoulder. Had she been so close to this place the entire time, and she never knew it? It was slightly cold that day from the consistent rain the past few days. Thunder ripped overhead, but she could see the end of the storm approaching. It would be just another day of rain, if that. She wondered where P.J. had gone. She had been the first (somewhat) friendly face she had encountered since her humans had gone. She let out a long sigh. Where did they go? It wasn't like them to just leave like that. She supposed she might never know.

The mutt devoured the scrap quickly, though after that, he paid no ettention to P.J. and the Great Dane, though it was easy enough to tell that he was in defense mode, by the way he lowered to the ground, ate swiftly, but kind of off, his eyes flicking around him every now and then. P.J. glanced toward the Great Dane just as he straightened up, then gave him a look and a glance at the Rottweiler. Follow me. She mouthed. She hoped the Great Dane understood what she was telling him. She didn't want to talk - and possibly cause trouble if she could help it. So she hurried toward a nearby house, in which the door was open, and she hurried inside, turning around to see if the dog had followed her. (If he didn't, just play it out that way, and I'll play that in my next post. Up to you.)

(No problem, not like he's got anything better to do yet ) Colby's eyes shifted to the red Aussie just as hers flicked to him, silently mouthing for him to follow her. Clearly, it was the Rottweiler's presence making her uncomfortable. She didn't want to speak with him in earshot. She turned and trotted to the nearest house, whose door stood swinging on its hinges. Colby shot the Rottie another wary glance, then loped after her, trying desperately not to look like he was fleeing with his tail between his legs. Once inside, he gave a cautious sniff, testing the air for signs of other current residents, but it smelled empty. He looked at the Aussie, curious now to what she had to say.

P.J. was relieved to see that Colby had followed her. She lifted her nose and took a large whiff of the surroundings. It reaked of cigarette smoke - just as P.J.'s house did when she first arrived with the humans. Then all of a sudden, a year after she'd been there, it stopped. Her humans had stopped smoking and she was glad. This house reaked horribly though. "Well," she said once she had fouced on the Great Dane again. "I'm P.J." She introduced herself carefully. "And I think we should gather a few more dogs to help figure out what it going on. -Friendly ones?" She added "friendly ones" with a tiny smirk. "We can at least group up. It'll be less likely for one of us to be attacked -." she paused, sizing up the great dane to her and figuring that she was probably only saying this for her sake. The Great Dane probably had loads of training in fighting. "Well, it wouldjust be easier with more of us, if you know what I mean."

Cue stepped away from the cold shore and trotted back down the streets, high buildings again rising on both sides of her. She looked up at the tall apartment buildings, debating with herself on what to do. She was sure many of the small dogs were stuck inside their houses. She would rather see them get out and at least have a chance to survive than to be trapped in their home, and possibly eaten by larger dogs looking for a meal. If they were out, at least they would have a chance, unlike the poor Yorkie she had seen in the street. There were many more small dogs in that state, being scavenged upon by the larger dogs. Even a few decently sized dogs littered the streets from being in a fight for dominance that turned wrong. She took a deep breath and nudged her way through the revolving doors, entering the lobby. She rummaged through the front desk for the master keycard. She had lived in an apartment herself for years; she knew how the doors worked. She found the piece of plastic with a human's face on it that was attached to a strap that she assumed they would wear around their neck. She picked the fabric piece up in her teeth, and bounded up the stairs. She began swinging the key card at each door's card reader, and as the light turned green, she put her paw on the door and opened it. Sometimes it was a large dog, but more often than not, they were small. Cats also exited the rooms. She continued doing so throughout the hallway, letting the animals loose. On one occasion, she found a bird locked in a cage on the table. She managed to knock the cage off, making the door swinging open and letting the bird go. With a sigh, she finished that floor and watched as animals flooded out. She wandered to the next floor to repeat the process. (Animals have to have an intelligence boost for this entire story line Go with it.)

Colby smiled as the Aussie finally introduced herself to him. Apparently, she'd finally decided to trust him. He was glad. Maybe now she wouldn't always be in that defensive half-crouch when he talked to her; it had been making him just a little uneasy, like she was going to attack his ankles or something. "Yeah," he agreed, feeling relieved. It was the most sensible suggestion he'd heard since his owners vanished. Then again, it was the only suggestion he'd heard, since P.J. was the only dog he talked to. But he liked the idea of not being alone when the sun went down this evening. And P.J. was a spunky little dog; he felt safer facing those other aggressive dogs out there with her at his side than alone. "Safety in numbers. Sounds like a good idea. But, um, how do we know which ones are the friendly ones without getting bitten a couple times first?" he asked, flinching at the thought.

Zypher stretched and rose to his paws, he had slept indoors last night after sneaking in. Walking into the kitchen he waited patiently for his human to come in and feed him. After a while he went looking for him. He searched every room and finding no human went back to the kitchen. Eventually he got the fridge door opened and pulled the chunk of meat off the shelf. After eating it he decided to let himself out. Outside the other dogs barked at him and he laughed back, leaving them in their cages. He could care less if the human was gone or not, it is not like the human 'liked' or even 'loved' him.

Shadow wandered the streets. Most dogs gave him a wide berth, his scared hide, and almost feral gleam in his eyes enough to keep them away. He was enjoying himself. He had always been in a cage, or in a fight. The gleam was his Wrecker part trying to rip apart every dog he saw. He had been doing well, only losing control a few times. and was getting better with each new dog he had seen.
There were a few toughs, they had tried to submit him, that wouldn't work. In his experience submitting met death. he was not going to die, at least not when he could help it. He taught them who was top dog, then continued on. He was impressed with himself, he had even stop short of killing the last two who had tried. He was making progress.
He didn't care the humans were gone, they were not he admitted, the best thing that had happened to him. With them gone he could grow, change what he was, what he wanted to be.
Some of the other strays had started to form packs. Those would be a problem. He could handle 1 or even 2 with relative ease, but a whole pack would be a different story. Problem was, he wasn't sure if he was pack material. He would have to find something though, as the food dried up and other critters would become part of the menu.
So he wandered the streets. looking, but not sure for what.

Zypher looked at the fence and smiled, if his human wasn't here to stop him...Jump it I will he said to himself. He leapt over the fence and trotted down the street, not caring about anything or anyone. His harness jingled as he trotted down the street and he eventually came to a car, it was running and Zypher turned tail and ran. After being hit by a car as a pup, his fear of them was immense. He continued running until he came upon a scent of another male (Shadow). His fur bristled and he let lose a low growl as he continued forth, towards the other male.

Shadow, was just wandering, he had taken food where needed, the others dogs gave him room and with almost no complaint.
He was lost in thought, when a shift of the wind brought a new scent, A male dog. Turning he saw a large mix growling low and sizing him up. Black and white, with a silver mask on his face. Scared, no stranger to a fight.
He felt his hackles rise. His grey coat standing on end. The were evenly matched in weight, it looked like, Thanks to his non standard mother, he was used to being the larger of the dogs in a fight. This would be even if it came to that.
The other dog was blind in one eye, he could tell by the way it held its head. Most dogs would assume weakness, Shadow had enough experience, more then enough, to know that some dogs used that apparent weakness to their advantage, You didnt live long enough other wise.
Still he could feel wrecker wanting to come out, Wanting to tear this dog to shreds, He might need that if it came to a fight,... but not just yet.
He wasn't scared, Fighting for all his life, burned fear out quickly. He postured, himself, saying ill fight if you want. His stance defiant, confident.
He waited to see what this dog would do.

Zypher raised his head and stopped growling. "Your a fighter as well." he said, his voice brisk and calm. His harness jingled as he stepped closer, "You know what has happen to the humans?" he asked, his voice showing no emotion about the humans at all.

Shadow, lifted his head, just stare-ring at the dog for a second, his eyes blazed as he fought to control his fighting nature. Then he shook his whole body, and took a slightly more relaxed stance.
" Don't Know, don't really care. " Shadow replied. " Best thing to happen to me, no longer forced to fight in the pits." His voice was deep and throaty. He was not used to talking to anyone. But he kept it calm.
" Still dont think they are coming back"
He looked around to a small pack of dogs, the leader was a Shepard mix, he had shown whose boss. They stopped when they saw not one but to big fighters, then slunk away. "Still the others are organizing, wont be safe for lone dogs much longer. "
He said in an even voice.

"I can agree with that. Name's Zypher, what yours? That is if you don't mind me asking." he said as he as well looked at the the small pack of dogs and bristled his fur. He smiled as the Sheperd mix stepped back and cowered slightly, "I see you must have already taught him a lesson, he won't soon forget." Zypher said with a chuckle.

Cambia growled lowly as her wounds began to fester. The deep slashes on her back itched, and burned, and oozed with blood. The doberman walked around, noticing others starting to form packs. She snorted and pranced forward, soon happening upon two males (Shadow and Zypher) She watched them for a moment as the sized each other up. They seemed experienced. But she needed a pack to join before she became lunch. The female walked forward slowly, her docked tail sticking straight up, and her hackles fully raised. Her position spoke of wariness, not of aggressiveness. The female's nice looking ears flicked back and forth as she listened to the two talk. Atleast they weren't helpless females. She could never stand being in a pack of just females, as she preferred males as friends over females. The doberman soon stopped, a respectful distance away from the two. "Hello boys." Her voice hummed and bounced off the towering buildings surrounding them. The sound was deep and enticing, but also had a sharp edge.

Shadow nodded, at the retreating Shepperd mix. " Tried to force me into submission over a few scraps i found. " He snorted a bit. " He's just lucky i left him alive. Was a time, not to long ago, i wouldn't have. "
He looked back to Zepher " Call me Wrecker... Wait no.. that was my human name. Shadow stride, but shadow or Stride for short, either one is fine. "
He heard the growl and turned, Sighing a bit at another challenge. Saw it was a female, Hurt, but still holding her ground. The doberman did stop a good distance away, which was a good start.
He listened to her say hello, then glanced at Zepher. " If i didn't know any better, id think this is going to happen more often then naught if we stick together."
The urge to kill was not as bad with females, so he didn't have to fight very hard to stop himself from attacking. A moments tension turned into a more relaxed, but wary stance.
"Hello, seems you're had a scrape or two." He replied to the Doberman.

Cambia snorted , eyeing the two. Her graceful body went into a sitting position as she continued to study them. Yes, if they both met her standards, she would be willing to join their "pack" if that was what they were starting. "It wasn't anything I couldn't handle," She said, refering to the fight that had caused the gashes, "Obviously." She said after a pause.
