Nomed paused, then shrugged with a small smirk. "This is true," he agreed with a low laugh. "I'm certain if my self-confidence was the part in question, it would've been crushed loong from now." He smile bashfully at her obviou shock over his leap. "I think you're wrong, there, sweet. I probably will cease to amaze you once I've finally flaunted all of my secrets and awesome moves." He demonstrated a small one for her, one that involved him leaping into the air and coming up behind her. He chuckled in her ear lightly, then licked her face below to remind her it was still him and not some random male intrigued by her beauty. The tip of his ear flicked at her refusal of food, but he ignored it as best he could. He knew pregnant she-wolves ate plenty of food to store up, and that they also had moments of not eating. It would pass and he'd be catching a deer soon just to sate her hunger. He started to bite into the furry creature at her paws, and now his as well, when he paused slightly. He cocked his head, as though trying to remember an important detail. He studied her carefully, head still cocked, green eyes intense with concentration. After a few moments, he sighed heavily and his ears drooped. "So what was that thing you did to the prey??" he asked, curious and somewhat resigned. "The thing where you did something after you killed it, but I can honestly not remember at all." He gave a small smile, bashful and almost pupish.

Murtagh snapped his head around to look at her, a wolfish grin spreading across his face as he watched after her. He shook his head and bounded forward, paws hitting the ground at a swift speed, then wind slicing through his fur. His green eyes set on Raiya ahead of him and pushed himself to go faster, almost catching her by now.

Raiya heard Murtagh catching up. She darted to the right to loose him. She wove through the trees.

"Good job!" Callyn praised. "Deer, exactly. A little herd. They're on the move, though, so you'll have to pick up their trail here and do some tracking. I'm going to let you go for it, but I'll be right here if you need any help." She gave her daughter an encouraging smile.
"If you were smart, you'd save a few for our later years, lest I become bored with you," Zakira teased, turning her head as Nomed performed another of his unexpected little leaps for her, ending up behind her. And if she were smart, she would learn to start expecting the unexpected from her mate. She lay down to watch her mate enjoy his meal, but instead of taking a bite, he paused, staring hard at her, long enough to make her shift uncomfortably. She was just about to ask what was wrong when he sighed and told her what it was he was trying to remember. She gave a start of surprise; hadn't she just been thinking about that very ritual? "I slit its throat and drank its blood," she replied, narrowing her grey eyes slightly. "Why?"
(Haha, sorry Icer. I really can't remember either anymore...I know they were hunting fox and Nico gave them a prep talk about being quiet because foxes were tricky. Right about there, I think.)

Nomed shrugged, trying to feign nonchalance at her almost accusatory tone. "Just wondering what it is that we do now," he said defensively before slicing through the flesh with his tooth and lapping hesitantly at the blood. He had no idea if he was supposed to thank some deity for it, or if he was supposed to wag his tail, or what. All he knew was it was strange and it would take some getting used to. He had no traditions nor regularly done things; he opted to do something she'd done since she was a pup. Or whenever she started lapping blood.

(Maybe you should start logging out like I do! xD)
Tempest nodded automatically and turned away from Callyn, starting forward on her little hunt. He lowered her muzzle to the ground and took in the deer's scents, figuring which way it went. It was difficult in the way that it was a herd, because a few of the scents would linger off the trail a little, proving to be just a deer that lingered off the path a little bit. It was a decent amount of tracking before Tempest came to a halt -still in the woods, yet coming upon a large field with a small herd of deer. Mission Accomplished! Tempest half glanced backward for Callyn, but didn't see her if she was there because of her short glance. She crouched down, ready to spring, but first checking for the straggler of the herd. -A weak deer that was probably easiest to catch. There! A young doe was grazing not too far from Tempest, but as she highered her head and began to walk forward, there was a slight lag to her back foot. She had a limp. Perfect. Tempest waited for the deer to settle if they had even heard her approaching, and then, when the doe that Tempest had picked out, was happily grazing severely close to Tempest, she leapt out of the brambles, tackling the doe and killing it quickly with a chomp of sharp fangs to its throat. The doe made an odd gurgling sound as blood gushed from her throat, then its legs went weak and it toppled over. Tempest grinned with satisfaction and excitement, placing a paw on the deers stomach and patting it with her paw, then looking anxiously for Callyn.

(mehh, sorry didn't catch Raiya's post.)
Murtagh grinned and picked up his pace to his very fastest, weaving in and out of the same trees she was and almost catch the tip of her tail by this time. Once he wa this close, he took a spring forward and leapt into the air, catching her back and pulling her to a stop as he tackled her. They tumbled for a moment or two before Murtagh leapt upward and shot out a paw at her shoulder, before darting away, tongue lolling happily.

Raiya growled playfully and darted after him. She pushed her leggs faster and faster until she was almost caught up with his tail.

If Zakira thought it odd to watch her mate flout a time-honored tradition of her pack, it was even stranger to see him try to honor it. She was unsure why he'd suddenly decided to start following the customs of her mountain pack. They're weren't his; he didn't understand them. What respect was there in just going through the motions? "That is unnecessary," she told him, her expression going flat.
Callyn hung back and let Tempest do her own thing. She was just there in case she was needed, or something went terribly wrong. Several times, she would lose sight of Tempest among the trees and undergrowth and it would be a minute or two before she caught up again, but she wasn't worried. Callyn was about thirty seconds behind her daughter when Tempest reached the field where the herd had stopped to graze. She came upon the young black wolf just as she leapt at a small doe. Callyn noted approvingly that the doe was lame in a hind foot. The struggle was brief, the kill clean. When it was over, Callyn trotted out to congratulate Tempest, a wide grin over her face. "That was extremely well done, sweetheart," she told her. "Neither I, nor anyone else in the pack could have done any better. Good job." And just because she couldn't help herself, she licked her daughter's forehead and nuzzled her proudly.

The male lifted his head and gazed at her, green eyes intent and serious. "It means a lot to you, so it should mean a lot to our pups," he explained, ears forward eagerly. "How can it mean anythjng to our pups if their father doesn't do it??" He straightened and walked to her to nose her belly. "These things have to have something to are about. Take it from past experience; there's no order if there's no system." He licked her muzzle gently, then returned to finish his squirrel. He licked his lips and flicked his ears about. "So what not??" he asked, head cocked.

Murtagh glanced behind him with wild eyes and darted to the side at a blinding speed, sliding behind a tree to try to get her off his trail. He raced forward as fast as possible and leapt into a nearby river that was only up to his belly. He lapped up a bit and lay down in the water. If Raiya came, she would know he had given up. He grinned at the thoughht and waited.
Tempest grinned excitedly. "Thanks!" She raised her brow as her mother licked her forhead and nuzzled her. She made a face and then turned back toward the doe. "It's awfully large to drag all the way to Comet and Cobalt's den..." She pointed out. "Do you think we can manage or should we try something else?" She asked, sitting down and holding her head high, proud of herself.

Zakira knocked Nomed's nose away from her stomach with a low growl and stepped back, her hackles rising in agitation. Nomed turned back to finish his squirrel, apparently assuming the matter done with, but Zakira couldn't let it rest at that. His manner infuriated her. "You're right," she said, her eyes flashing. "It does mean a lot to me. It's an important part of who I was and who I am now, and I won't stand to see you mimic me so casually. If it means a lot to my puppies, it will be because I taught them why it is done, not simply because it is done. And don't speak to me of system and order." (Lol, I apologize. Zakira gets really touchy when she's pregnant...as opposed to just a little touchy when she's not ) Callyn smiled at the face Tempest shot her, then turned to appraise the doe with mismatched grey and blue eyes. She thought between the two of them, they could probably manage. Tempest had reason to be proud of it, but it really wasn't that big. "If you're still set on giving your deer away to Comet and Cobalt, I'll help you lug it over there," she agreed. She bent down to grasp one of the back legs in her teeth, heft it once, wondering since when did a deer so small start weighing so much, and start dragging it backwards. She was counting on Tempest to pull her share of the weight more than she expected she would. When they got back to Nico and Skye's den, she dropped her end with a sigh of relief and flopped down on her belly. "Huh, wore me out!" she grinned to her daughter, panting. She shook her head. "Getting old..."

(lol, I know I know pregnant women. =3) Nomed raised an eyebrow, contemplating whether or not to be hurt by her snarls. He sat and watched her carefully. "Well, I asked before why you did it and you said it was a tradition from your pack, so I assumed you wouldn't tell me now," he stated calmly, ears flicking lightly. "Do you want to tell me now so I can discover about the tradition I wished to know about a while back??"

"A while back you weren't my mate!" Zakira snapped. "It was ridiculous to assume I wouldn't tell you now." She lashed her tail angrily against the backs of her legs, hating the way Nomed took on that slow, deliberate, oh-so-calm-and-reasonable tone with her, as if she were crazy or confused, watching her like she was some kind of mental case out of her straight-jacket. Right now, no, she didn't want to tell him about her pack's customs, not when every word out of his mouth sounded laced with sarcasm. Feeling that Nomed was being intentionally provoking, she snarled in frustration and spun around to stalk off by herself.

Raiya halted as she saw Murtagh lay down in the river. She waded in next to him. The water went halfway up her back. "Giving up?"

Traxx slowly got to her feet and stumbled around, trying to find a scent to follow home. She wandered for hours to no avail. Her shoulder was really sore now and her heart just wasn't into trying to walk home now. She curled up by a tree and whimpered, hoping the bear didn't come back.

Nomed opened his mouth, then sighed and scratched his ear in confusion. He'd never been around a pregnant she-wolf before, especially not one who could kill him without batting an eye. Well, maybe she would now that they were mates, but the way she was acting left him with no idea. He moaned softly to himself; of all the she-wolves in the universe, he had to pick the one that would tear his ear off for a wrong look?? Although, the thing that attracted him the most to her was the fact that she spoke her mind and didn't prance around blood, she pranced through it. That in itself should've been a honking big sign that told him he was going to be in a world of pain when she was ornery. With a heavy sign, he grabbed a mouthful of flowers and shadowed a ways off in front of her to place them down in her path before returning to the den and laying down, eyes on the door, waiting for her to cool off and come back. He understood the need for space every now and then. That wasn't a problem. She could take her time; he'd be waiting up for her until she was ready. (God what a sap. X) )

Kali awoke with a start, because she had a horrible dream. Her eyes flicked around wildly before they settled on her mate. She relaxed a little and wiggled so that she was under his wing. Kali nipped playfully at the base of his wing and then squirmed away. She was in a playful mood.
