Callyn awoke in her den, stretching long white legs out before her and groaning at the protest of mildly creaky joints. Such a pain, getting old, she thought to herself, not for the first time. A very literal pain. Straightening, she glanced over at her still snoozing puppies and smiled fondly.
Brigan blinked open his quiet brown eyes, rousing himself from a dream better off forgotten before it brought on the heartache. Joshua lay curled between his front paws, her foot twitching in a dream of her own. He hoped it was a good one.
Nico rolled over on his back beside Skye and lay with all four paws waving up at the ceiling. He glanced over at his mate and grinned sleepily, then jumped up and shook out his coat. "Rise and shine, all!" he announced, not caring that his voice was loud enough to wake not only the inhabitants of his den, but also all those of every den within a 100 yard radius. "It's a new day!"
Zakira rested her muzzle on her paws, smiling a little to herself as she waited for Nomed to wake up. She had news for him. Of course, she could probably save herself the waiting if she simply walked over and nudged him, but she rather liked the feeling of anticipation. Her tail swept the ground gently.

Skye smiled at Nico's eagerness to get up, though she couldn't understand why. She was never much of a morning person, she preferred to sleep in whenever possible. She stretched her legs out in front of her and opened her eyes sleepily. "What's got you so excited this morning?" She murmured, half to herself. She stood up, still stretching, and still not fully awake. She let out a quick yawn, and shook her coat out gently, ears slightly ringing from Nico's awakening that she believed he had yelled straight in her ear. She nosed the boys who were miraculously still sleeping. (And because they need bios.)

Comet's ears twitched in his sleep. <i> Comet raced through the field after the squirrel, paws pounding against soft grass. Wait til he showed Tempest this! And Cobalt! The thought made him grin and pick up his pace, cutting a few feet of difference between him and the squirrel. Suddenly a loud noise filled his ears and he skidded to halt, looking around. </i> His light blue eyes flew open and he was instantly alert. He leapt to his paws and looked around wildly, rolling his eyes as he found where the sound was coming from. "<i> Nico! </i>" He grumbled, settling back down on his belly and crossing his paws. He layed his head down and closed his eyes, attempting to get back to sleep.
Tempest's eyes opened slowly, looking around for her mother, only to find her staring back at her, smiling. She stood, smiling back and trotted over to Callyn, nuzzling her and licking her nose. "Morning, mom!" She said cheerfully.

Nico grinned widely as his enthusiastic outburst caused some stirring, and grumbling, from among his denmates. He snickered as Comet shot straight up, eyes flickering wildly before settling on his brother-in-law and rolling in exasperation. "Oh, no you don't!" Nico said, as the pup lay back down to go back to sleep. He trotted over and gave him a nudge. "Up you get, Commie. Eyes open...there ya go!" He turned now to his mate, who was stretching and shaking out her coat. He grinned and nuzzled her affectionately. "I slept well," he answered. "Did you sleep well? Did you guys all sleep well? We should do something crazy today," he continued with barely a breath between. His green eyes were bright. "We should hunt a wild boar! Oh, wait, we've done that. We should...I don't know, climb a tree or purposely irritate my mother or something."
As Callyn watched, Tempest's black button eyes slowly blinked open and met her mother's gaze. The pup trotted over and Callyn lowered her head to drag her tongue twice along the small black coat, smoothing out the sleep tousled fur. "Good morning, sweetheart," she replied. "Anything special you wanted to do today?"
Brigan lay still, unwilling to jostle Joshua or do anything that might wake her sooner than she was ready. When she rolled over and peered up at him with still puppy-blue eyes, he smiled and nuzzled her good morning. "You hungry? Ready to come hunting with Daddy, baby girl?" he asked her. Joshua jumped up. "Okay!" She danced around him eagerly as he climbed to his feet and led the way into the forest. Technically, Joshua was probably still a little young yet to be accompanying him on hunting trips, but since losing her mother and sister, she'd been afraid of being left alone. And, to be entirely truthful, he was afraid of leaving her.

Skye smiled at Nico's conversation he seemed to be having with himself. "I slept well. I'm glad you did, too." She said softly, not wanting to interrupt his monologue. "We should hunt some bear." She joked, again speaking softly. Suddenly she was listening as Nico suggested they climb a tree. What kind of wolves climb trees? Honestly. A small smile crossed her lips. "We should go hunt something special, then go swimming." She suggested, sitting down to watch as her mate continued to talk, five words seeming to flow out of his mouth every second.

"A bear!" Nico exclaimed, getting excited. He spun around and reviewed his prospective hunting party, all yawning, if not still half-asleep. He visibly deflated. "You guys are in no shape to go bear-hunting. He'd flatten us with one paw." Plus, he realized, Two of us are under a year old and a third is blind. Yeah, probably not the best idea in the world. Too bad, though. It occurred to him belatedly that Skye knew all of this already and that she'd only been joking when she suggested it. He flicked his ears, shooting her a sheepish grin. "Right. We'll hunt something special that's not bear," he said. "And then go swimming. Okay, what should we hunt then? Group effort, pup-friendly," he added, his tongue lolling.

Skye exhaled quietly as Nico began to assess the group, and as he became visibly disappointed as he realized she was kidding. She blushed, embarrassed for him, lowering her head to give him a sweet grin. “Bear wouldn’t be the best choice.” She said under her breath, turning her head to look at the wall. “But I’m sure we could find something. We’ll know it when we smell it.” She said, turning to look back at Nico. She stood, giving him an eager, questioning smile, ready for him to lead the way.

Nico returned Skye's grin, seeing her blush and feeling amused that she was embarrassed for him, when he himself wasn't. He laughed and licked her cheek. "Love you, Skye. Alright, let's take a hike then. Everyone coming?" He turned to check over his shoulder at the others, then started forward at a jaunty trot. He figured they'd catch up when they realized he wasn't going to wait for them.

Skye quickly fell in step beside Nico, and returned his lick. "Love you too." She said quietly, glancing over her shoulder to check on the boys, who were slightly lagging behind. She shook her head with a smile and looked towards the ground in front of them, inhaling the scents of the morning. A light mist was over the ground, the air was cold and refreshing, and the sun was still rising. A good time to hunt. Nocturnal animals could still be about, and the diurnal animals would be just getting up. She took in another deep breath, trotting next to Nico, hearing the loud thudding of her brothers’ paws behind them. They certainly hadn't learned how to walk stealthily just yet.
Cobalt had to find some awkward pace between jogging and running to keep up with the young adults leading the way. He still wasn't fully grown, about half the size he would be some day. But he had confidence he would be able to hunt. He began to get bored, unrecognizing he was dragging his feet through the sticks and kicking them up to entertain himself.

Nico carried his nose high in the air to pick up any interesting scents, his ears pricked and twitching alertly. He listened to Comet and Cobalt tramping heavily along behind them for several patient minutes, then halted with a sigh as Cobalt began scuffing up the leaves too. "Okay, now this just isn't going to work," he said, rounding on the pups with an only half-playful frown. "You guys are gonna scare everything away! You gotta step light, like this, see?" He demonstrated, exaggerating how carefully he placed his paws and gliding silently over the forest floor. He turned back to the boys. "That way they don't hear you coming, right? Come on now, you try it. Show me what you got."

Skye nodded approvingly as Nico corrected the pups' horrible hunting techniques. She turned her head over her shoulder to listen in on the instructions he was giving them.
Cobalt listened silently and nodded solemnly. He strutted around in a circle, flinging his head from side to side, exaggerating his footsteps as Nico had done. He continued strutting until he felt he had demonstrated the technique well enough. His feet fell quietly - not silently, but okay for his age - on the ground. He sat down and gave Nico a proud smile through squinted eyes, stifling a laugh.

Nico studied the boys' form as they practiced walking quietly for him, then nodded his approval. "Much better," he praised, winking. "Walk like that and maybe we'll actually see something, hey?" He laughed, shook his head, and rejoined Skye at the front of their little procession. "Were we that hopeless when we were pups too?" he asked in amusement.

The black male woke and flicked his ears lazily before lifting his head and opening his eyes. He looked at Zakira, who was watching him with a wagging tail and a somewhat scary look in her gorgeous gray eyes. He cocked his head nervously. "What??" he asked warily, concerned and confused.

Skye smiled, looking down at her paws. "Probably." She laughed. (Wasn't it Nico and Skye who got lost, and Blue Moon had to bring them back? I can't remember xD If not, disregard this. If it wasn't them, who was it?) "Like when we got lost, a looong time ago, and Blue Moon had to help us." She said quietly, mind reliving the memory (or not ). "Or when we went ice-sliding and my dad freaked out on us?"

(yep, thanks, Icer. Luckily, me has a sister that can lecture me so I dont do it again. Lol jk.)
Comet stood up, waiting silently for the group to gather so that they could hunt. He trotted after them when they were ready and lagged behind with Cobalt. Nico picked up on their minor enthusiasm and came back to them, demonstrating a quieter walk to help their hunting. He copied Cobalt and picked up the pace when they fell into step again, stepping only slightly lighter.
Tempest shrugged, her excitement draining as a thoughtful look crossed her face. After a moment, her attentioned flicked back toward Callyn. "No, not really." she replied, shaking her head at Callyn. "But, maybe we could think of something...." she said, her black eyes flicking back up to her mother.

Raiya yawned and woke up. It was peaceful under her little bush. She watched intently on a caterpillar that was busying itself eating a leaf.

Zakira's eyes, trained intently on her mate, caught the light flick of his ears that signalled his waking. She raised her head, waiting until he opened his eyes. She laughed at the look he gave her. "I'm pregnant," she announced simply, though her excitement was plainly apparent in her eyes.
(Yes, it was Nico, Hunter, and Skye. On the trail to the winter territory, remember?) Nico nearly threw his head back and laughed, but remembered just in time that they were hunting and, more importantly, setting an example for Comet and Cobalt. He snickered quietly instead. "Oh, yeah," he replied. "That was pretty bad. I don't know if I was more terrified of being lost in the dark, or of your dad's anger, which ended up being pretended anyway." He grinned at the memory.
Callyn smiled at the thoughtful look that crossed her daughter's face, taking the question seriously. "Well, you keep thinking and you tell me if something comes to mind, okay?" she told her.

Nomed's green eyes widened until they nearly popped out of his skull. He stared at his mate, uncomprending. "R-really??" he asked, tail wagging slowly before he bounded up to his feet. "I have to get them toys!" He raced around the den, acting like a pup himself, as he prepped the den for the future babies.

Tempest yipped happily and nodded. "okay!" she turned in a circle and began pacing back and forth, a thoughtful look appearing over her face as she stared at her paws. She wagged her tail slightly and cOntinued her pacing, thinking.
