Shivers raked through Tratto's body as he wobbly stood from his storm shelter. His coat was covered in snow and ice. The ice occurred from his body heat melting the nearest snow, which refroze as heavy ice, coating almost every hair of his body. He shook his head, and trotted forward, his stomach growling in protest. (I replied for Kali a while back, I do believe Dragon ) Faolan snorted and stood out from under his tree that had faithfully protected him from the storm. His small, muscular body didn't help him as he started to make his way through the snow. The white crystals were nearly up to his stomach.

(Lol, much better choice, sammiejammie. Nico and Skye don’t have Zakira and Nomed’s issues with strangers ) Nico glanced up as Comet and Cobalt stumbled into the den, their coats full of snow, and collapsed on the floor to sleep without so much as a ‘hey, how’s it going, sorry we’re late’. He gave a wry grin, too relieved to see them to bother with a scolding. Besides, he just didn’t like scoldings, anyway, even when he wasn’t on the receiving end. Traxx bristled suddenly, and Nico went on alert. “What is it?” he asked. He followed her outside, and spotted the mound that showed where a wolf had burrowed under the snow. A few drops of blood stained the white around him. Traxx snarled, demanding the stranger’s name. Nico stepped up beside her, brushing her side lightly. “Now, now, Traxx,” he admonished. “Let’s be nice to the poor guy first and see how that works before we assume he’s out to get us. Aww, look, he’s bleeding.” He turned to the wolf with a slight smile. “I’m Nico,” he said. “Are you okay? Looks like a pretty nasty gash on your chest there.” Zakira shot her mate a dark, irritated glare. That was not a job well done. It was an inadequate job, only half done. Laredo’s body should be dead and growing cold outside right now for his impertinence. Instead he was only off somewhere whimpering over a minor flesh wound. “What I wouldn’t give,” she hissed. “To once and for all rid this world of its idiots and fools!” Involuntarily, her eyes flickered to her puppies as Nomed mentioned the reason she was pacing and avoiding returning to them. Yes, she should hunt. It would clear her mind and give her time to cool down. She needed to sink her teeth into something. “I’ll go,” she said. “Stay with Harek and the pups, Nomed.” As she passed him on her way out, she brushed her tail along his side to show him she meant nothing personal by refusing his company. She just needed this time alone. Brigan smiled, brushing away Ana’s apologetic glance with a sweet nuzzle. She didn’t need to apologize for anything. She was already forgiven. He then returned his attention to Freya, who was asking what kind of symptoms they’d noticed in the girls. Ana tentatively offered one or two little things, sounding unsure. Brigan couldn’t blame her; it was both their first time parenting. “Fever,” he put in helpfully. “And Sawyer was coughing, too.” Freya nodded at Brigan and Ana’s description of the pups’ symptoms, pausing to smile reassuringly at the lighter pup, who opened her eyes to gaze up in confusion at the strange wolf hovering over her. "Which one is Sawyer?” she asked, having already guessed, but needing to ascertain she was correct. “The dark one,” Brigan replied. “Mm-hmm,” Freya murmured. She sank back on her haunches, a distant look crossing her face. “Lavender would be best, though I don’t know where we’d find it in the dead of winter…have to use a substitute…borage and honey…juniper for coughs…” She nodded decisively and stood, looking at her patients’ parents. “I will be back soon. And don’t worry,” she smiled. “Your daughters aren’t in any grave danger. I think we’ve managed to catch the sickness before it progressed to a serious stage.” The elderly healer then trotted out to gather her supplies. Joshua lifted her head to stare curiously after her, before a bout of coughing tore her attention away. Callyn chuckled affectionately. “I’ll take that as a compliment. But unfortunately, I feel old, so you go on and hunt, while I nap. Have a good time, sweetie.” She dropped her muzzle down on top of her paws with a sigh, feeling her eyelids flutter closed. Maybe I’ll dream of Auden, of Jamie, of Icer, she thought as she drifted off. Since they live only in my memories now…

Nomed sighed, shaking his head as she began to rage. "You and me both on that one, there." When she looked at the pups and decided to hunt to calm herself, denying his assistance, he knew not to take it personally. If he had been in her paws, he would have done the same. He just wanted to make sure she knew she wasn't alone, both in her anger and in life. As she brushed her tail past him, he nosed it gently to tell her he understood and padded back into the den to curl around his pups. Settling in carefully to not wake them, he watched them with the utmost fatherly affection he knew how to give. For a wolf who had grown up with no father, to speak of, he certainly knew how to show his love for his pups. Nuzzling them gently closer to him, he rested his head on his paws and watched the entrance, alert for danger. (I can't remember if I made Harek fall asleep and I'm wayy to tired to check now, so if I didn't she is now. ^.^')

Traxx sat down in the snow and mumbled to herself as they waited for a response form the male. Sol-Leks and Kavik walked slowly back towards their den when Kavik took off, trotting towards Brigans' den. Sol-Leks hadn't noticed as he had been on her blind side when he left. He stuck his head inside, "Joshua you want to come outside and play in the snow?" he called into the den. Sol-Leks could see the den now and turned to ask Kavik if he wanted to go get a drink before they went inside. She glanced around and not seeing him anywhere figured he when to Brigans. (Sierra, I did respond to Kali Page 18 )

(Oh haha oops)
Kali chuckled and nuzzled his chest before flicking her ears. The storm seemed to be slowing. The female snorted and stuck her head out the entrance, scenting the wind for anyting peculiar. The only smell she caught was the one of snow, and the pack. Her tail wagged and she looked back at Shadow, before again returning her gaze to the untouched landscape.

A black she wolf poked her head outside her log-made den, golden eyes blinking as they glanced around. Seeing nothing of threat nearby, the black furred she fully emerged from the log, and stretched out, showing off her long, white fangs as she did so. Sniffing the air, she headed of to hunt.

Tempest stood and nodded, casting her mther a look and a shrug, then trotting out of the den, feeling the cool white snow on her paws immediatly and inhaling the sweet scent of winter air. It was still very cold from after the snow, leaving behind only a light snow fall which fell over her black pelt in little speckles, tickling her nose and making her ears flick forward and backward as if to relieve the tickly snow from them. The snow fell in tiny drops, pelting the ground at ease, slowly and carefully. Tempest stepped forward, liking the feeling of the snow on her feet again before she broke out into a full run, racing toward the snowy trees and dashing into their depths of forest. She skidded to a quick halt and remembered to stay silent, taking a deep breath, exhaling, then inhaling one more time with her nose in the air, scenting the forest's usual piney scent, but no sign of prey yet. She kept quiet, but continued forward at a slow creep, tail down as she slowly jogged forward, her paws barely making a noise as she crept into the bushes. After a while, she had come to a small clearing. Still, she stayed in the woods at a decent distance from the clearing, black eyes curious as the yummy scent of a hare drifted past her nostrils and she quickly stepped forward. The hare was only several feet away, but it was old and scrawny, having not heard her yet. It dug into the snow, munching on some of the frozen grass- or whatever was under there. Tempest couldn't tell. She slowly crept forward, hindqaurters wiggling as she readied herself to pounce. The rabbit's ears pricked and it stood on its hind legs, scenting the area as well, but as it's fearful dark eyes finally rested on Tempest, she was already sinking her teeth into it's skinny little neck and feeling it go limp. She scooped it up in her jaws, clenching her teeth down for a better grip. She slowly jogged back to her den, pausing at the entrance to peer inside, then trotting in and dropping the hare on the floor of the den, then shaking out her coat. She lay down, ripped off a leg, eyes watching her resting mother. She was glad Callyn was taking this opportunity to rest. She knew she had been tired these days and she needed the sleep. She watched her for a moment longer. She had always secretly admired her mother's personality. So confident and strong; not afraid to say what she thought, smart, but with a very amusing, sarcastic side, but could also get down to a pup's point of view. She smiled, then lowered her head and tore into the juicy meat.
Ana nodded slowly, then lay down on her belly as the older she-wolf trotted out of the den, eyes on her sleeping daughters as worry and fret flitted along her face and eyes. She nuzzled both of her daughters sweetly then lay her head down on her paws and waited quietly, not saying anything- only thinking. The she-wolf's words had certainly been a bit comforting. But how well did she know herbs? Was she an expert? Only small knowledge? Ana wasn't told anything about this so she couldn't be sure. Her eyes fluttered, reminding her that she was still a bit tired, but she forced them open, determined to watch what the elderly wolf had to do or say.

Tanek trotted onto the packs territory. He pricked his ears for any signs of life but there was none. He yawned. He was exausted and just wanted to sleep. So, he crawled under an evergreen tree and curled up to nap.

When Joshua’s coughing subsided, she lay her head on her paws, her shepherd ears half flopped over dejectedly. Being sick was not fun. She perked up as Kavik’s voice was heard from outside. She wagged her tail. “It’s Kavik, Daddy!” she said. She hadn’t seen Kavik since before Mama and Sawyer came back. But Brigan shook his head. “Baby, Kavik can’t play today. You and Sawyer are sick. Do you want to get him sick too?” Joshua visibly wilted. “But Daddy…” she whimpered. “I’m sorry, baby girl,” he said sympathetically as he went to the den entrance to send his daughter’s friend away. “Hello, Kavik,” he said, a small smile all he could manage at the moment. “I’m afraid Joshua’s sick today. You’ll have to come back some other time, and then you can meet her sister Sawyer too.” He glanced around to see if Sol-Leks had come with her son, but it looked like he’d snuck off again. This question was becoming habitual. “Does your mother know you’re here?”
Freya trotted briskly into the woods on her search for her list of herbs. Borage first. The plant itself was out of season, but luckily she didn’t need the flower or leaves. The roots would suffice, and those she could dig from beneath the snow. She lowered her nose, finely-tuned to the faint scent of plants beneath the layer of snow covering the earth, and sniffed for the scent she’d learned to associate with the minty-colored plant with tiny frost-blue flowers. Hitting upon the scent, she started to dig, sending snow flying behind her. When she came to the frozen ground, her claws played more of a part in gouging the little plant’s roots from their home in the dirt. It came free, and she gathered a chunk or two in her mouth. Juniper was next. As an evergreen, it shouldn’t be as much of a problem to find, even in winter. As she searched, Freya also kept an eye out for places honeybees might have built hives earlier in the year. The trouble was, she wasn’t familiar with this territory yet. She usually had a small store of extra supplies kept on hand throughout the winter for cases just such as this, so she didn’t have to go out looking and coming up with alternative remedies that might work less effectively. The juniper proved fairly easy to find, as she had expected. She wasn’t finding any old hive sites, however, and was racking her mind for something she could use in place of it. Syrup, possibly, she mused. She’d passed some maples a few minutes ago. She circled back now and set down the borage and juniper to gash a hole in the trunk of one of the trees. When sap started to sluggishly bleed through the wound, Freya held a piece of bark under it to catch the drips, then retrieved her other supplies and started back to the den.
Zakira left the cave, secure in the knowledge that Nomed would look after their pups while she was gone. Her tail tip still twitched in irritation, much like a feline’s, as she set off looking for prey. She was really in the mood for a good fight with a badger or a lynx, but felt she probably couldn’t be gone that long from her pups. Reluctantly, she set her sights on something smaller –a pair of snowshoe hares twitching twin black noses and crouching frozen in the snow before her, hoping to go unnoticed. They were out of luck today. A snarl ripped from Zakira’s throat as she leapt into a flat-out run, slightly early to purposely give them a head start. She needed to burn off some of that bottled up rage she was carrying. Her paws pounded beneath her and her breath steamed out behind her. She was upon the first hare within seconds, ripping into it with a ferocity it probably didn’t deserve. She looked up and her eyes locked on the other hare, bounding away as fast as its legs could take it. Zakira tore after it, pushing herself to her absolute top speeds. On any other day, the hare might have gotten away; unfortunately, Zakira had been tested past her limits of patience today. There would be no clemency, not even for the most deserving adversary. The hare’s blood stained the snow. She stood over it, breathing heavily until she calmed enough to drink from its neck. She then picked up the hare to carry it back to where she’d left the first one. Now that her mind was beginning to clear, she was surprised by how far she’d gone, just between killing the first and second. When it came into sight, she found a turkey vulture at her kill. Fury reignited in her core and she dropped the hare she carried to attack the giant bird. She targeted its wings, destroying its only chance for escape, while it screeched and pecked at her face and eyes. Growling, the black-masked she-wolf twisted to pin it face-down beneath her. Her muzzle firmly gripping one broken and bloody wing, she stepped down hard on the back of the vulture’s neck, hearing the sharp crack with satisfaction. Releasing the vulture’s wing, she stepped off it. This was one kill she wasn’t honoring. The thieving bird wasn’t going to get a free meal from her. She’d worked up an appetite now, however, and this bird could partially redeem itself by feeding her. She rolled it over and ripped a few bites from its breast until full. Then she picked up her snowshoe hares and returned to the cave, feeling so much better than she had when she’d left. Nomed was awake and watching the entrance when she got back. Harek was asleep, curled round her puppies. Zakira dropped the hares on the floor. As she went to her mate to lick his neck in greeting, she felt the sting of several little cuts on her face from the vulture’s beak and grimaced inwardly, knowing he would ask. She laid down beside him and nuzzled her pups, who immediately awoke and swarmed toward her to nurse.

Nomed watched as Zakira came back in with two hares and smiled at her gently, green eyes alert and soft. He shifted aside to give her more room as she came to lay beside him and noticed the cuts on her muzzle. His brow furrowed and he leaned closer tk get a better look. Was she attacked by a squirrel or something?? "What happened, to your muzzle??" he asked softly, keeping his voice down so as to not wake Harek nor provoke a fight. He figured she was feeling better, but that didn't mean she was any less volatile. "Are you okay??" His eyes showed nothing but concern as he leaned closer and began gently rasping his tongue over the cuts to clean them.

Ana jerked upright at the sound outside the den- a little puppy, which also roused little Joshua, who begged Brigan to play with the pup outside. Ana lifted her head up and scented the air. It was only one wolf, but by now Brigan was already taking care of it, heading outside. She nuzzled Joshua, then swiped her tongue over the little pup's ears. "Shh, honey is that your friend?" She asked hesitantly, as if not to wake Sawyer, and not to stir up a fit or something from Joshua. Too late. The little pup poked her head up, letting out a few sickly coughs and peering at Joshua, then looking around for her dad. She sat up. Her head ached and she was very tired. She didn't understand what was going on, so she kept quiet, her big brown eyes serious but tired as she watched Ana.

Even though she’d been expecting it, Zakira was still mildly annoyed by Nomed’s concern over her scratches. She started to impatiently jerk her head away when he leaned in to clean them for her, then sighed and rested her muzzle on her paws, submitting to his ministrations. “I’m fine,” she said. “A turkey vulture tried stealing one of my hares. It had a sharp beak.” She closed her eyes, taking a moment to just relax and enjoy the soothing rasp of Nomed’s tongue taking the sting out of her cuts.
Forlorn, Joshua watched her father walk to the front of the den to tell Kavik she couldn’t play today. She looked up at Ana as her mother nuzzled her and asked if Kavik was her friend. “Yeah,” she answered. “But Daddy said I can’t play with him.” Sawyer awoke, glancing blearily around, and Joshua dropped her head on her sister’s back. She wouldn’t have had the energy to play, even if Brigan had let her.

Nomed continued to lick her muzzle until he was content it was clean, then rested his muzzle on her head gently. He nuzzled her ears, then gazed at their pups. "That was one dumb bird," he murmured finally. He sighed and glanced at her. "I know you don't like it when I worry about you, but I can't help it." He nuzzled her again, this time more playfully. "I'll stop being a sap now." Maybe. Harek lifted her muzzle and gazed at them with a small smile, keeping her eyes shut nost of the way. She wished for the connection that happened between mates, the kind where they could screw up everything but still love each other and keep each other safe. She gave a small sigh and turned her head to look at her pups. "You'll want for nothing in your lives," she murmured. "You'll already have it."

Erika awoke, but she couldnt open her eyes and she couldnt hear. And she could barely move. The most she could manage was a slow wiggle. She hated the inability to move, and started wimpering in frustration. Raiya woke when her daughter started wimpering. "Shhhh." She soothed the little pup as she nuzzled her. "It's alright." She continued to calm her down until Erika was sleeping again.

(I think I will kill Essence off, to say it bluntly. I have too many characters, she is never played, and Kali is pregnant, so someone needs to go What do you think Maya?) Odeta's eyes flicked open slowly, ending her slumber. The alpha lifted her head and looked about in amazement. Snow. What...? Then she remembered all that had happened in just a few days. She had become the leader of a pack, made a few enemies, and made a few friends. A storm had plagued the pack and now she was laying in the middle of some clearing. As the fog in her mind began to clear, the alpha looked around and almost yelped in surprise as she saw Barak laying right next to her. She snorted uncomfortably and stood, shaking out her coat to get rid of the little bit of snow that had dusted her deep, amber pelt. Her ears were pinned, but she sat, making a plan for the day, mentally. Tratto shook a little as he continued on, in hopes of finding an actual den suitable for living in. Reiko squeaked and squirmed against her sibling. Her puffy, white pelt was being smooshed down as she rolled around slowly. The pup's legs refused to bend completely at the joints, and what little muscles she had jiggled like jelly. But, she still manged to propel herself around in small circles using her uncooperative legs. Suddenly, out of no where, Reiko's little head ran straight into the stomach of her mother and she squealed madly in protest. Faolan sniffed around cautiously, his thick, red pelt standing out brightly against the dense, gleaming snow. He felt lost in a way. He was in a pack, but not really. Where were the others? Why were they so spread apart from one another? This was not like any pack he had even seen, especially not like the one he had to endure through.

(Alright then (( Here it goes. Bye Essence, my sweet) The chocolate colored she wolf made it back to the den, very tired and queasy, after the new alpha was claimed. She was glad for the rest of the pack, but she for one was never in the center of things, and knew it wouldn't affect her much. As Essence laid down in the willow tree hollow, she saw the snow start to gently fall. Her greying muzzle showed a smile for a second as she watched the little flakes cascade to their destination, the ground. She saw the flakes as if they were little children produced from the sky. They fall down, grow up and enter something bigger. Her little pups. Essence felt proud, and sad at the same time. She had been relatively old when she had the pups, and she regretfully realized that she would never be able to see her grandchildren. She felt something in her bend, her life, or her soul perhaps. She was happy, and she knew her time had come. The she wolf glanced at Dakota lovingly, and nudged his chest with meaning. She didn't, however, tell him her thoughts or feelings. There was no need for worry. The chocolate colored female laid her head on her paws and closed her eyes. The wind blew fretfully outside and the snow pelted the barren trees. All the while, however, a small smile was graced upon the wolf's face as she dreamed of romping in the hills with her pups, still young, and her jovial, dark colored mate. Her eyes never looked upon the land again.

Dakoda followed his mate home. She didnt look so well. When she layed down he laid down next to her. He could feel her heart beating. A fluttering feeling. When her heart stopped he bent his head down. After a few minutes he nudged his mates cold body and licked her nose lovingly. He then raised his muzzle up to the sky and howled. A sad, mourning howl that could be heard throughout the territory. His mate was dead. Dakoda, greif striken, gave up on life. He could not bear to be separated from his mate. He curled protectively around Essences body and howled again. Although this time it was a goodbye howl to his children. He closed his eyes, and joined his mate.

Tratto's ears flicked suddenly and he froze as his heart sunk. The call that was echoing eerily was coming from the direction of his parent's den, and it spoke of sadness and a farewell. Tratto threw back his head and howled urgently, as if willing his parents to just hang on, he will get there. The male wolf ran as fast as he ever had, whimpering and growling all the way. When the male reached the area, dread had all but consumed him. Cautiously he approached. His ears were plastered to his skull and he scented the air, which smelled suddenly stale and calm. He growled once more and rushed forward, pushing his body into his previous home. What he saw there stunned him. His parents were curled around each other peacefully, yet still and lifeless. Tratto continuously whined, which sounded like a screech, as he paced in the small space, trying to come to terms with what he had just saw. He started to growl, then whine, then howl softly, then some more whining. All the while, he paced in the small willow hollow, never taking his eyes off his parents. Finally, when all emotion and strength seemed drained from his body, Tratto left the den and sat right outside, his shoulders hunched and his head thrown back. He sent out a desperate, gurgling howl that seemed to call out to the heavens. Such pain and surprise echoed within the call. Tratto kept howling like that, for how long, he didn't know. His eyes were closed tight and his vocal chords were rubbed raw, yet he still kept howling for the loss of his parents.

Ipa woke up to a her fathers howl. She immediately sprinted toward her familys den and ran into Khaz, knocking him over. Khaz had also woken up to his fathers howl. And he too was sprinting to his familys den when Ipa ran into him. They both got up and raced to their former home. when they got there Tratto was howling. Ipa pushed him aside and crawled into the den to see her parents lying motionless on the floor. She nuzzled both of them then went outside and lied down. She curled up into a tiny ball and wimpered. Khaz went in after Ipa and sat next to his dead parents. He nosed them, refusing to believe that they were dead. But nothing he did helped. After about half an hour of sitting there fighting the torrent of greif inside him, Khaz steeled himself and crawled back outside. He walked to the center of the little clearing that lay infront of their den and began to dig.
